VirtualBox 7.0.8 release

Oracle has published a corrective release of the virtualization system VirtualBox 7.0.8, which notes 21 fixes. At the same time, an update to the previous branch of VirtualBox 6.1.44 was formed with 4 changes, including improved detection of systemd usage, support for the Linux 6.3 kernel, and a fix for vboxvide build issues with kernels from RHEL 8.7, 9.1 and 9.2.

Major changes in VirtualBox 7.0.8:

  • The ability to disable verification of Linux kernel modules by digital signature is provided by specifying the VBOX_BYPASS_MODULES_SIGNATURE_CHECK="1" parameter in the /etc/vbox/vbox.cfg file for host environments and in the /etc/virtualbox-guest-additions.conf file for guest systems.
  • Added initial support for the Linux 6.3 kernel.
  • The Linux Guest Additions added experimental support for reloading kernel modules and user services after VirtualBox installation is complete, eliminating the need to reboot the entire system after updating the Guest Additions suite.
  • Added "modifynvram enrollmok" command to VBoxManage to add a MOK (Machine Owner Key) key to NVRAM, which can be used to verify Linux guest kernel modules.
  • Added API for adding digital signatures to the MOK (Machine Owner Key) list.
  • Improved definitions for using systemd to initialize the system in the Linux Guest Additions.
  • Issues with building vboxvideo module when using RHEL 8.7, 9.1 and 9.2 kernels have been resolved.
  • Support for nested running of virtual machines has been improved in the Virtual Machine Manager.
  • Fixed issues that occurred when using the Hyper-V hypervisor.
  • Improved startup of UEFI guests when using macOS 13.3+.
  • The flag for restoring the current snapshot has been returned to the GUI in the virtual machine close dialog, problems with writing the port value in the USB filter editor have been resolved, editing of the VM name and OS type in the panel with detailed information about the virtual machine has been adjusted.
  • The Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack addresses issues with the delivery of a cryptographic module to provide full virtual machine encryption.
  • For the E1000 driver, the process of changing the network binding has been simplified.
  • Changes have been added to virtio-net to improve support for FreeBSD 12.3 and pfSense 2.6.0.
  • Resolved graphics issues that occurred when using Windows 7 guests.
