Wine 6.7 and VKD3D-Proton 2.3 release

An experimental release of the open implementation of WinAPI - Wine 6.7 has taken place. Since the release of version 6.6, 44 bug reports have been closed and 397 changes have been made.

The most important changes:

  • The NetApi32, WLDAP32, and Kerberos libraries have been converted to the PE executable file format.
  • The implementation of the Media Foundation framework has been improved.
  • The mshtml library implements ES6 (ECMAScript 2015) JavaScript mode, which is enabled when Internet Explorer 11 compatibility mode is enabled.
  • In WOW64, a layer for running 32-bit programs on 64-bit Windows, file system redirection has been improved to substitute 32-bit DLLs for a program instead of 64-bit ones.
  • Added new drivers with Plug & Play support.
  • Added an input device for working with the keyboard in raw mode.
  • Closed bug reports related to games: Supreme Commander Forged Alliance, Daedalic, MPC-HC 1.7.13, Fairy Tale About Father Frost, Ivan and Nastya, MUSICUS, BioShock Remastered, Legends of Runeterra.
  • Closed bug reports related to running applications: Melodyne 5, Informix Database apps, Autodesk 3ds Max 9, SAP GUI, SharpDevelop 2.2, Clarion Enterprise Edition 9.0.10376, Rhino 4.0, HyperChem 8.0.x, Solid Framework, Foobar2000, Avid VENUE , EA Origin, Rekordbox 5.3.0, Winamp, Process Hacker 2.38, WeChat, Adobe DNG Converter 13.2, MikroTik WinBox, SimSig, Windows System Control Center, LDPlayer 4.0.x, Alacritty 0.7.2.

Additionally, we can mention the publication by Valve of VKD3D-Proton 2.3, a fork from the vkd3d codebase, created to improve Direct3D 12 support in the Proton game launcher. VKD3D-Proton supports Proton-specific changes, optimizations and enhancements to improve the quality of Windows games based on Direct3D 12, which are not yet accepted into the main part of vkd3d.

The new version of VKD3D-Proton adds initial support for the DXR 1.0 (DirectX Raytracing) API, which uses the Vulkan extension VK_KHR_raytracing for ray tracing. DXR is currently only functional on systems with NVIDIA drivers and can be used in Control and Ghostrunner games. Support for VRS (Variable Rate Shading) and Conservative Rasterization has been brought to readiness. The D3D12_HEAP_FLAG_ALLOW_WRITE_WATCH call has been implemented to enable the use of the Traces API. Several significant performance optimizations have been made.
