Wine 7.5 release and Wine staging 7.5

An experimental release of the open implementation of WinAPI - Wine 7.5 has taken place. Since the release of version 7.4, 28 bug reports have been closed and 360 changes have been made.

The most important changes:

  • The driver for the ALSA audio subsystem has been converted to use the PE (Portable Executable) executable file format instead of ELF.
  • Generation of a database with locales from the Unicode CLDR (Unicode Common Locale Data Repository) repository is provided.
  • Added support for the compiler developed by the vkd3d project for shaders in HLSL (High-Level Shader Language), used in DirectX.
  • Added initial support for OCSP (Online Certificate Status Protocol), used to check for revoked certificates.
  • Continued support for 'long' type code.
  • Closed error reports related to the operation of the games: Operation Lovecraft: Fallen Doll, Minecraft, GRID 2, The Evil Within 2
  • Closed error reports related to the operation of applications: Nota Bene, Core Temp 1.13, Microsoft PowerToys, MS Windows terminal, Samsung Magician 7.x, mIRC, IrfanView 4.59, QuickPar 0.9.1, HeidiSQL, SolSuite, IP super camera, ATPDraw, KakaoTalk, DTS Master Audio Suite, Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.0, Audacity 2.4.2.

Additionally, we can note the formation of the release of the Wine Staging 7.5 project, within the framework of which extended builds of Wine are formed, including not fully ready or risky patches that are not yet suitable for adoption into the main Wine branch. Compared to Wine, Wine Staging provides 561 additional patches. The new release brings synchronization with the Wine 7.5 codebase. In the new version, work continues to remove warnings associated with the use of the β€œlong” type from patches (for example, the substitutions β€œ%u” were replaced with β€œ%lu” or the ULONG type was replaced with UINT32).
