Release of xfce4-terminal 1.0.0

The developers of the Xfce project have presented a significant release of the terminal emulator Xfce Terminal 1.0.0. The new release is prepared by a new maintainer who took over the development after the project went unmaintained in 2020. The program code is written in C language and distributed under the GPLv2 license.

The release is also notable for a change in the version numbering scheme. Within the 1.1.x branch, experimental releases will be formed, on the basis of which the stable release 1.2.0 will then be formed. In case of significant changes, such as porting to GTK4, or after the 1.9.x numbering is gradually reached, a 2.0 branch is planned to be formed.

Among the changes in the new release:

  • Improved scrolling behavior as information is output (the “Scrolling on output” setting), which is now automatically disabled for a while if the user starts scrolling up.
  • Added support for floating scrollbars.
  • An item has been added to the menu for sending signals to processes.
  • The '—tab' and '—window' options have been reworked.
  • Added full filling mode (“Fill” setting) when displaying background images.
  • The dialog displayed when attempting to paste data from the clipboard with unsafe escape sequences has been reworked. An option has also been added to disable the display of such warnings.
  • It is possible to change the behavior for right-clicking.
  • Added support for shortcut editor.
  • Provides more seamless integration with the Xfce environment through the use of the XfceTitledDialog class and the use of client-side window decorations.
