In its fourth year of existence, the mobile AR game PokΓ©mon Go reached $3 billion in revenue.
Since its launch in the summer of 2016, the game has been downloaded 541 million times worldwide. The average consumer spend per download was nearly $5,6, according to analytics firm Sensor Tower.
Although the first year was the most successful (grossing $832,4 million), the game is currently on its way to breaking that record with $774,3 million this year. After peaking in 2016, global revenue fell to $589,3 million in 2017 before rising to $816,3 million last year.
The success of PokΓ©mon Go this year has been spurred on by the introduction of the Team GO Rocket event, helping to reach around $110 million in August sales.
The United States is known to account for 36,2% of player purchases, followed by Japan at 29,4% and Germany at 6%. The US also leads in downloads with 18,4%, followed by Brazil at 10,8% and Mexico at 6,3%.
Google Play dominates the App Store in terms of unique downloads, accounting for 78,5% of installs. At the same time, the disparity between spending is not as large: 54,4% of revenue comes from Android users, while 45,6% comes from iOS users.
