Calculate Linux 20.6 released

For the 20th anniversary of Calculate, we are pleased to present to your attention a new release of the Calculate Linux 20.6 distribution!

In the new version, download optimizations have been carried out, requirements for the amount of RAM have been reduced, and support for preconfiguring browser plugins for working with Nextcloud has been added.

The following distribution editions are available for download: Calculate Linux Desktop with KDE desktop (CLD), Cinnamon (CLDC), LXQt (CLDL), Mate (CLDM) and Xfce (CLDX and CLDXS), Calculate Directory Server (CDS), Calculate Linux Scratch (CLS) and Calculate Scratch Server (CSS).

Major changes

  • Instead of a Swap disk partition, Zram is used by default.
  • Change to Zstd compression for kernel, modules and initramfs.
  • Kernel modules installed from packages are now also packaged in Zstd format.
  • By default, the PulsAudio sound server is used, but the ALSA selection is retained.
  • The transition to the Chromium browser with the preconfigured uBlock Origin plugin has been completed.

  • Added by support settings of the Passman and FreedomMarks browser plug-ins for working with Nextcloud during user profile creation.

  • Instead of Deluge, qBittorrent is used.
  • Changed the default action when closing the laptop lid to suspend.
  • Improved Wi-Fi support.
  • Improved removal of unused dependencies by the package manager.
  • Changed the order of images on a multiboot flash drive - the main image is always at the end.
  • The binary repository includes 6 kernels of different versions, including those with the futex-wait-multiple patch to speed up Steam.
  • Added preset for ccache to be used by both emerge and cl-kernel.

Rectification

  • Fixed execution of suspend and hibernate in XFCE.
  • Fixed touchpad operation after suspend.
  • Fixed disabling image when using image caching in memory (docache).
  • Fixed local overlay setting.
  • Fixed login to MATE session.

Calculate Utilities

  • Added the ability to abort the build of the package in case of an inappropriate patch in the templates.
  • Fixed PXE boot and install.
  • Fixed a bug when configuring a package and installing it into the system at the same time.
  • Added the ability to use FEATURES="userpriv" when building packages.
  • Fixed detection of running emerge with cl-update.
  • Fixed distribution preparation for assembly.
  • Added deletion of .old files in /boot when packing the distribution.
  • Added support for eix-diff in the build image.
  • The lpadmin group has been added to the list of default groups.
  • Added support for utilities to work with sys-apps/portage without Python 2.7.
  • Fixed work with pyopenssl.
  • Fixed video driver detection.
  • Added the ability to select VESA in the list of video drivers.
  • Fixed installation of x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers at boot time.
  • Fixed image preparation with x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers.
  • Fixed work of cl-console-gui.
  • Fixed custom directory initialization when using an encrypted profile.
  • Added the ability to specify additional kernel boot options in the build image.
  • The --skip-revdep-rebuild option has been changed to --revdep-rebuild.
  • Fixed world() template function.
