Delta Chat 1.2 messenger released for Android and iOS

Delta Chat is a messenger that does not have its own servers and uses email for messaging.

Messages are automatically encrypted and using Autocrypt standardbased on OpenPGP. By default, opportunistic encryption is used, but it is possible to create verified contacts when scanning a QR code from another device.

New features in version 1.2:

  • Ability to pin chats
  • Non-blocking adding contacts using a QR code. No more waiting for work to complete contact verification protocol.
  • Integrated database of email providers, which contains IMAP and SMTP settings, configuration recommendations, and known issues.
  • Built-in help that does not require access to the official Delta Chat website.
  • Updated translations, added new languages
  • Reduced Android version requirements to require version 4.1 Lollipop instead of 4.3 Jelly Bean.

The Android app is written in Java, the iOS version is in Swift, and Delta Chat Desktop is currently moving to TypeScript. All applications use a common kernel written in Rust.
