Google introduced the second beta version of the Android Q operating system, which added a lot of interesting things. In addition to fixes and improvements, the new version also received a number of interesting innovations.

New notifications

In the first Android Q beta, swiping from left to right opened up a new notifications menu. The current update adds the ability to customize the swipe direction for the "dismiss notification" and "open notification menu" actions. So far, you can only choose the direction. "Swipe" the notification in any direction and thereby reject it will not work.

Application Popups

This feature allows third-party windows to appear on top of the active one. Simply put, when surfing the Internet, you can reply to a message in the messenger without switching to it forcibly. This feature also works on the desktop. Thus, the user needs to make fewer switches.

So far, the feature is disabled by default and is being tested. But it can be activated through the Android Debug Bridge (ADB) debugging console.

Gesture control

Native support for "rewinding" open windows and applications has appeared. When you press the tablet button, now applications do not switch. By quickly scrolling through this area, you can move forward or backward to select the desired application.

This function is also tested and does not always work correctly. It remains to be hoped that this will be corrected in the release.

Google account in settings menu

Now the desired profile is displayed in the upper right corner of the search bar. It's like changing accounts in Gmail. Tapping on the icon opens a window with account settings.

And in the β€œAbout phone” section, a shortcut has also been added to Google Pay settings, which allows you to set up a payment system using a single smartphone.

Volume and sound

Now the status bar has media playback controls. The built-in player supports audio and video files, as well as Spotify and YouTube streaming services. There are also icons for wireless interfaces and audio output to external speakers, including "smart" ones.

The volume control interface has been updated. Now you can use it to configure sound sources - media files, phone, speaker for conversation, ringtone, alarm clock.

An update for foldable smartphones

Emulation of two displays appeared for this category. This feature is for now intended for application developers. It works with 7,3-inch virtual displays when open and 4,6-inch when folded, or 8 and 6,6 inches, respectively. It is available in Android Studio 3.5. And the OS itself is already available on the official website.
