On June 15, a new version of the distribution kit was presented - Zorin OS XNUMX. This distribution kit is aimed at novice users who are used to working in Windows.

The distribution kit is distributed in several editions - core (slightly truncated functionality, two layouts are preinstalled - windows and touch, fewer preinstalled programs, you can download for free) and ultimate (six layouts are preinstalled - macOS, windows, touch, windows classic, Gnome 3 and Ubuntu, preinstalled lots of games and other software (price - 39 euros).

What's new:

  • Added Zorin Connect component, based on GSConnect and KDE Connect, and associated mobile application for pairing a desktop with a mobile phone. This application allows you to display smartphone notifications on the desktop, view photos from your phone, reply to SMS, etc.
  • The desktop, which defaults to a heavily customized Gnome, has been updated to version 3.30 with performance optimizations to make the interface more responsive. An updated theme is used, prepared in six color options and supports dark and light modes.
  • Implemented the ability to automatically turn on the dark theme at night.
  • An option has been proposed for adaptive selection of desktop wallpaper depending on the brightness and colors of the environment.
  • Added night light mode.
  • Added a custom desktop layout with more padding, more comfortable for touch screens and gesture control.
  • The interface for system settings has been redesigned.
  • Built-in support for installing self-contained Flatpak packages from the FlatHub repository.

Plus a couple of minor improvements such as:

  • Added support for colored emoji. The system font has been changed to Inter.
  • Added an experimental session based on Wayland.
  • The live images include proprietary NVIDIA drivers.
  • Evolution mail client included with support for interaction with Microsoft Exchange.
