Telegram update released: gradients, delayed messages and spell check

Telegram developers right before the New Year released a fresh update to its open source messenger with end-to-end encryption, adding a number of new features to it.

Telegram update released: gradients, delayed messages and spell check

The first innovation was the improved editing of custom themes. Appearance settings now support gradient backgrounds that can be applied to chats, primary element colors, messages, and more. The developers have released a number of new background templates. Moreover, the topics are extensive: from space and cats (and cats in space) to mathematics, Paris, New Year and the like. In addition, new basic themes for day and night modes have been added, and switching between them has become easier.

Other features include sending delayed messages when the recipient is online. It works only when you can see the user status itself. It has become more convenient to select places in the location selection menu, and when using the night mode, the maps are also repainted in dark colors.

Improved search system. Now you can easily navigate between messages containing a keyword, sent by a specific person or from a specific day. You can also view the results as a list. And on iOS, you can select multiple messages without leaving search mode. Previously, this was only possible on Android. Finally, there was a spell checker for everyone.

For audiobooks or podcasts longer than 20 minutes, the system will remember the playback position. Also, for such audio materials, playback acceleration has appeared, similar to voice messages.

Of the little things, we note new animated effects for switching between chat messages, starting a search, and so on. It works on mobile platforms. There is also a choice of part of the text, not all, the long-awaited "Mark all as read" feature, a choice of video quality when sending, a new contact sharing screen, and much more.
