Found vulnerability in WhatsApp leads to failures in group chats

Group chats is one of the popular features of WhatsApp that allows you to create general conferences for different occasions and groups of interlocutors: friends, family members, colleagues, etc. However, Check Point Research, a research firm, has identified a vulnerability that could make it difficult to use this feature.

Found vulnerability in WhatsApp leads to failures in group chats

The problem is that one user in a group chat can provoke a situation in which the application will constantly crash, and the only way out is to uninstall and reinstall the application. This will also cause group members to leave the general chat and lose their chat history. To cause this situation, you need to edit certain message parameters using the WhatsApp web interface and browser debugging tools.

Disclosure of information about vulnerabilities, as a rule, is done with a long delay in time. So in this case, the flaw was discovered back in August, and Facebook eliminated it in September by releasing version 2.19.58. It is safe to assume that most users have already updated the application, but for those who for some reason have not, it is advisable not to delay installing the current version.
