Western Digital begins shipping client SSDs based on 96-layer BICS4 3D NAND memory

Western Digital has already begun trial shipments of customer solid state drives (SSDs) based on 96-layer BICS4 3D NAND Flash.

Western Digital, recall announced 4D BiCS3 96D NAND flash memory with 2017 layers back in the summer of XNUMX. Toshiba specialists took part in the development of products.

It was reported that the mass production of next-generation multi-layer 3D NAND memory will begin during 2018. For this product family, TLC (three bits of information in one cell) and QLC (four bits of information in a cell) solutions are planned to be released.

Until now, 96-layer BICS4 3D NAND memory has been used in flash cards, USB sticks, etc. As AnandTech now reports, during the announcement of quarterly financial results, Western Digital CEO Stephen Milligan (Stephen Milligan) announced the start of shipments client drives based on 96-layer BICS4 3D NAND memory.
