A beta version of wget2 has been released - a rewritten wget "spider" rocking chair from scratch.
The main differences:
- Supported by HTTP2.
- The functionality was moved to the libwget library (LGPL3+). The interface has not yet been stabilized.
- Multithreading.
- Acceleration due to HTTP and HTTP2 compression, parallel connections and If-Modified-Since in the HTTP header.
- Plugins.
- FTP is not supported.
According to the manual, the CLI supports all the latest Wget 1 keys (except FTP) and adds many new ones, mainly related to new authentication methods and HTTP2.
And the second fly in the ointment in addition to FTP: one of the ideological opponents of the XZ compressor was involved in the development. All archives are laid out as tar.gz or tar.lz.
