WhatsApp can no longer be used on Windows Phone and older versions of iOS and Android

From December 31, 2019, that is, in just over seven months, the popular WhatsApp messenger, which celebrated its tenth anniversary this year, will stop working on smartphones with the Windows Phone operating system. The corresponding announcement appeared on the official blog of the application. Owners of older iPhones and Android devices are a little more fortunate - they will be able to continue chatting in WhatsApp on their gadgets until February 1, 2020.

WhatsApp can no longer be used on Windows Phone and older versions of iOS and Android

The termination of support for the messenger has been announced for all versions of Windows Phone, as well as for devices with Android 2.3.7 and iOS 7 or earlier. The developers also warn that since the development of the application for the above platforms has not been carried out for a long time, some functions of the program may stop working at any time. To continue using WhatsApp after these dates, they recommend upgrading to newer iOS and Android devices.

In fairness, it should be noted that the end of support for WhatsApp on older software platforms will affect only a small number of users. According to the latest Statistics according to the distribution of various editions of the Android operating system in the global market, Gingerbread version (2.3.3–2.3.7) is now installed on 0,3% of active devices. The share of iOS 7, which was released in the fall of 2013, is also small. All editions of the "apple" mobile OS older than the eleventh account for only 5%. As for Windows Phone, new smartphones based on it have not been released since 2015.
