Windows 10 launched on a smartphone, but only partly

The marathon of launches of Windows 10 on a variety of devices continues. This time, enthusiast Bas Timmer from the Netherlands, known by the nickname NTAuthority, was able to run the desktop OS on the OnePlus 6T smartphone. Of course, we are talking about the edition for ARM processors.

The specialist described his developments on Twitter, publishing short messages with photos and videos. He noted that the system was installed and even launched, although as a result it fell into the "blue screen of death." NTAuthority jokingly named its smartphone OnePlus 6T πŸ™ Edition.

After the first failure, Timmer was able to launch the Windows command line on his smartphone. The enthusiast noted that Windows 10 recognizes touch screen input. This is possible thanks to Samsung's AMOLED display with Synaptics controller, which is also part of the touchpads on many laptops that are currently on the market. In other words, the system quite "understands" input from the touch screen.

So far, it remains unclear how long it will take for a more or less full-fledged launch of the β€œten” on a smartphone, but the very fact of such a possibility suggests that issues of this kind can be resolved. Of course, drivers for all devices will be required for normal operation, and the software will certainly slow down, given that not all software is yet written for ARM. But a start has already been made.

At the same time, we note that earlier another enthusiast managed to run a desktop operating system on a Pixel 3 XL smartphone developed by Google.
