Wio - implementation of Plan 9 Rio on Wayland

Drew DeVault, active developer of the Wayland protocol, creator of the project Sway and accompanying library wlroots announced in his microblog new Wayland composer - wow, window system implementations Riowhat is used in the operating system (inside Solna Centrum).

Externally, the composer repeats the design and behavior of the original Rio, creating, moving and deleting terminal windows with the mouse, running graphics programs inside them (Rio on X11 port from the project Plan 9 from User Space did not repeat the original functionality, just creating a new window with the program next to it).

Inside, wlroots-composer is used Cage to create "kiosks", the code from which allows you to run many Wayland displays in the context of one user session. According to DeVault, this is one of the interesting features that shows a fundamental difference between the Wayland design and X11, where it is simply impossible or difficult to achieve.
