Wolfenstein: Youngblood - Closer to Dishonored, More Open World and Lots of Activities

Wolfenstein: Youngblood looks set to be markedly different from previous MachineGames games in the Wolfenstein universe. And it's not at all that the events in it take place much later. The New Colossus, and not in new heroines - the main changes will affect the gameplay. In particular, the world will become much more open, which provides for more freedom in terms of research and various side activities.

It is also interesting that Arkane Studios, which created Preys (2017) and the Dishonored series - it seems that the influence of this team will be quite strong. Speaking to Official PlayStation Magazine (June Issue #162), Executive Producer Jerk Gustafsson revealed that the game's level design will have a lot in common with what people remember from Dishonored.

He said: "I think players will see a lot of similarities with the level design in the Dishonored games, so the action game environments might be a little different in that sense, but it could be good for the game, especially when it comes to the variety of combat scenarios or mission options in as a whole."

Mr. Gustafsson also noted that the developers are still focusing on the story, as in previous Wolfenstein games, but there will still be less story content in Youngblood, as the game has now become much more open. As a result, although the story will be shorter, the overall gameplay time will increase, there will be many more side activities and missions that will be able to keep players even after the campaign is completed.

β€œThe open structure of the game and the cooperative component made the storytelling task somewhat more difficult,” he said. β€” We believe that we have a strong history, but it is markedly different from what we have done before; it's a little lighter not only in tone but also in the amount of content, and I think it's a big change from the previous games: the campaign will be shorter, but the game time will be longer."

Wolfenstein: Youngblood releases July 26 for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The Panic Button team is responsible for the Switch option.
