XFX offers a free replacement for the Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC II with a new revision

AMD Radeon RX 5700XT with a new graphics architecture, RDNA was introduced with its younger brother in July of this year. Already in early August, XFX prepared your choice of accelerator with a THICC II dual cooler in a signature classic design inspired by mid-century cars.

And in early October, XFX released the same accelerator already with THICC III Ultra triple cooler and significantly increased frequencies compared to the base ones. The XFX representative recently spoke about the reasons for the revision of the cooling system and the changes made.

In addition to the number of fans increased from 2 to 3, the heatsink with aluminum fins was also slightly lengthened, and more importantly, the aluminum auxiliary pad responsible for dissipating heat from 8 GDDR6 memory chips also became copper. The THICC III cooling system also removed the metal foil between this pad and the main heatsink.

These simple changes have reduced the memory temperature by 8 degrees compared to the original THICC II cooler. The increased airflow from the three fans also contributed. But, above all, it was the material of the contact pad and the removal of the foil that made it possible to achieve the result.

An XFX spokesperson announced that the new RX 5700 XT THICC II graphics cards also have these design adjustments. Moreover, all buyers of old-style accelerators can turn to XFX for a free replacement of a video card with an up-to-date revision. True, it is not clear whether it is possible to distinguish the revision by the appearance of the video card?

Thus, the improvements made should be seen as fixing design bugs, while offering a free replacement is intended to reduce reputational costs.
