Xiaomi has officially opened a R&D center for camera technology in Tampere, Finland. It comes three months after the Chinese tech giant announced it was setting up a local company in the region.
The choice of the location of the research center is notable for the fact that Nokia built its mobile phone empire in this region. This could mean an abundance of talent and resources related to smartphone technology. Nokia has a center in Tampere where it develops technologies for telecommunications and cloud computing.
Jarno Nikkanen, senior director of Xiaomi Finland's new R&D center, said that it currently has a staff of 20 but will grow rapidly.
