Smartphone developers continue to experiment with the design of the front camera in order to achieve a completely frameless design. A very unusual solution in this area was proposed by the Chinese company Xiaomi.
The published patent documentation suggests that Xiaomi is exploring the possibility of creating devices with a “reverse notch”. For such devices, a special ledge will be provided in the upper part of the case, in which the camera components will be located.
As you can see in the images, the protruding module is planned to be endowed with a dual camera. There will also be a slot for the speaker.
Xiaomi offers several options for the design of the ledge. It, for example, can have a rectangular shape or a design with rounded corners.
Obviously, some other electronic components can be integrated into the protruding part - say, various sensors.
The proposed design also includes a dual rear camera and a symmetrical USB Type-C port.
However, the described solution looks rather doubtful. Not all users like the notch in the screen, and the block protruding beyond the body can cause even more criticism.
