Xreal has discontinued production of the Neo dock, which was designed to connect the Nintendo Switch to Xreal augmented reality glasses. The accessory was announced but never made it to store shelves. All pre-orders will be cancelled, and customers will receive a $100 refund and a $30 credit toward other Xreal products, according to reports. CNET.

Xreal explained that the decision was made after the final stage of testing, which revealed issues that prevented the device from meeting strict internal quality standards. CEO Chi Xu noted Reddit, that the company cannot release a product that does not fully comply with Xreal standards.
"During our final review, we identified issues that do not meet our strict internal reliability standards," Xu wrote. "Out of an abundance of caution, we have made the difficult decision not to release Neo." Representatives clarified that this was a technical issue, not a safety issue.
Performance issues were noticeable even during pre-release testing: demanding games like Metroid Prime 4 experienced critical frame rate drops, making play impossible. Nevertheless, the very concept of a compact adapter for Switch, smaller than docks from other brands, piqued users' interest.
The situation reflects the ongoing limitations of the Nintendo ecosystem in terms of external display support. While smartphones, PCs, and portable consoles, for example, Steam deck work with headsets directly, then for Switch и Switch 2 Docking stations are required. When asked about native support for this technology, Nintendo responded that it is not currently part of their plans.
