In this version, as you know, there was support for the Microsoft exFAT file system, a new function of "blocking" access to the kernel from the software side even if root is present, as well as many improvements in terms of hardware. Of the latter, support for new AMD processors and video cards is announced.

A new virtio-fs file system has also been added, which can be used when working with virtual machines. It allows you to speed up the exchange of data between hosts and guest systems by forwarding certain directories between them. The FS uses the "client-server" scheme through FUSE.

On the kernel.org website, Linux 5.4 is marked as stable, which means that it may appear in final distributions. Developers can now add it to builds and distribute it to repositories.

Also, Linux 5.4.1 is being prepared for distribution. This is a maintenance update that changes a total of 69 files. It is already available as source codes that you need to compile and build yourself. Everyone else is advised to wait for the assembly to appear on the "mirrors".
