St. Petersburg State University, together with Yandex, JetBrains and the Gazpromneft company, will open a faculty of mathematics and computer science.
The faculty will have three undergraduate programs: “Mathematics”, “Modern Programming”, “Mathematics, Algorithms and Data Analysis”. The first two were already at the university, the third is a new program developed at Yandex. You can continue your studies in the master's program "Modern Mathematics", which will also open this year.
It is noted that the faculty will train practitioners and scientists. The main directions are mathematics, programming and analytics. After completing the training, specialists will be able to engage in scientific activities and develop advanced technologies.
Faculty students will study all areas of modern mathematics: lectures and seminars will be taught by university teachers, including employees of the laboratory named after. P. L. Chebysheva. Courses in data analysis, machine learning and other areas of computer science will be taught by specialists from Yandex, JetBrains and other IT companies.
The basis of all programs of the new faculty is mathematics. In junior years, academic projects will overlap. In the future, students will study in the areas they have chosen: algorithms, machine learning, applied mathematics, etc.
The new faculty will begin work in September. In 2019, 100 people will be enrolled in budget-funded places in the bachelor’s program, and 25 in the master’s degree. It is also possible to study on a paid basis.
