Yandex will test an unmanned tram in Moscow

β€œWe believe that unmanned city transport is the future. We continue to support new technologies, and soon the Moscow Government, together with Yandex, will begin testing the first unmanned tram,” Liksutov said.

The timing of the testing has not yet been announced.

Nearly 100 self-driving cars are currently in use in Moscow, according to the mayor's office, and have traveled almost 5 million kilometers in total. It is assumed that such transport will make roads safer, because about 70% of accidents occur due to the human factor. Congestion is also expected to decrease.

Yandex presented self-driving cars in May 2017. Now they are being tested in Moscow and Innopolis. At the beginning of September this year, the company announced  about plans to restructure the taxi business: robotic cars in carsharing and taxis will be transferred to a new division - Yandex Self-Driving Group (Yandex SDG).
