Japan begins testing next-generation passenger train with a maximum speed of 400 km/h

The express train, which will be built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Hitachi, is capable of a top speed of 400 km/h, although it will carry passengers at 360 km/h.

The launch of the new generation Alfa-X is scheduled for 2030. Before that, as the DesignBoom resource notes, the bullet train will be tested for several years, during which it will make night flights between the cities of Aomori and Sendai.

Alfa-X will be one of the fastest bullet trains in the world when it launches in 2030, but Shanghai's maglev train, which can reach a top speed of 431 km/h, holds the lead.

Bloomberg noted that Japan also plans to open a railway route between Tokyo and Nagoya in 2027, where maglev trains will reach speeds of up to 505 km/h.
