We are talking about the changes announced in May this year. Then the developers announced plans to stop showing the exact number of subscribers to YouTube channels.
Starting next week, users will see only approximate values. For example, if a channel has 1 subscribers, then its visitors will see a value of 234 million. Users and authors of the network have already expressed their dissatisfaction with the new changes. They were supported by services that collect statistics on social networks.
Recall that the intention to make a change in the display of the number of subscribers was announced this spring. The problem arose due to the fact that the number of subscribers is displayed differently on mobile and desktop devices. Some inconvenience could be experienced by the owners of channels with more than 1000 subscribers. For example, when using the desktop version of the service, the user could see the exact number of subscribers, while the abbreviated number was displayed on the mobile application. The developers also believe that the innovation will help improve the psychological state of the channel authors, who continuously monitor the number of subscribers.
It is worth noting that the authors of the channels will still be able to see the exact number of subscribers using the YouTube Studio service for this. Despite the negative reaction of video hosting users, the developers hope that innovations will be accepted over time. “While we know that not everyone will agree with the current updates, we hope this is a positive step for the community,” the developers said in a message.
