Huawei 5G ban could cost UK Β£6,8bn

UK regulators continue to question the wisdom of using Huawei telecommunications equipment in XNUMXG deployments. However, a direct ban on the use of Chinese vendor equipment can lead to huge financial losses.

Huawei 5G ban could cost UK Β£6,8bn

Recently, Huawei has been under continuous pressure from the United States, Australia and some European countries, which accuse the manufacturer of spying for China. Therefore, Mobile UK commissioned Assembly Research to conduct a study to assess the possible losses in the event of an outright ban on the use of Huawei equipment. Analysts have come to the conclusion that this alignment will lead to a decrease in investment in the development of 5G networks in the country. In addition, the speed of implementation of fifth generation communication networks will be significantly reduced.

While the UK's largest carriers were ready to start rolling out 5G as early as this year, the failure to cooperate with Huawei could delay the necessary work by up to 24 months. In this case, the state could suffer losses totaling Β£6,8 billion, according to government experts involved in risk assessments. It is not known exactly how the British government plans to address the security issue, but it is clear that an outright ban on the use of Huawei equipment is a last resort. At the moment, telecom operators are recommended to use equipment from Ericsson and Nokia.
