The commercial 5G network launched in South Korea did not meet consumer expectations

Earlier this month, there was a running the first commercial fifth-generation communications network. One of the disadvantages of the current system lies in the need to use a large number of base stations. At the moment, an insufficient number of base stations have been put into operation in South Korea that could ensure stable operation of the network. Local media reports that ordinary users are complaining about the low level of quality when working with 5G networks. Some customers have noticed that the services provided to them are not as fast and secure as advertised.

The largest South Korean telecom operators acknowledge the problem and promise to improve the quality of services provided in the future. Representatives from SK Telekom, Korea Telecom and LG Uplus have publicly confirmed the presence of problems within their own 5G networks. Over the weekend, the country's government announced that to quickly resolve problems, a meeting would be held every week with telecom operators and manufacturers of devices designed for 5G networks. The first meeting, scheduled for today, will develop a plan to quickly resolve 5G disruptions. In addition, the issue of further distribution of fifth generation communication networks within the country will be considered.

Previously, the Korean government, together with local telecommunications companies, pledged to build a full-fledged national 5G network within three years. By 2022, it is planned to spend 30 trillion won for these purposes, which is approximately $26,4 billion.
