The Free TON Community (consisting of developers and potential users of the TON platform) launched the Free TON blockchain platform. This is reported by RBC with reference to a community statement, which says that the founder of Telegram, Pavel Durov, who was banned by the US authorities from issuing cryptocurrency, did not participate in the launch of the platform.
According to available data, instead of Gram tokens, project participants will receive tokens called TON. In total, 5 billion TON will be issued, 85% of which will go to partners and network users for free. In addition, developers will receive 10% of the total number of tokens, and 5% will be distributed among validators who will confirm user transactions. The source notes that user tokens will be distributed through a referral program. This means that TON can be obtained by attracting new users to the platform. The Declaration on Decentralization signed by the community members says that TON tokens give their owners the right to take part in the discussion of the strategy and management of the platform.
The Free TON Community Declaration was signed by over 170 members. In addition to Telegram’s technical partner, TON Labs, which participated in the creation of the blockchain platform, the community included Kuna and CEX.IO cryptocurrency exchanges, investment companies Dokia Capital and Bitscale Capital. The message also notes that Free TON has nothing to do with Telegram, investors and the company's dispute with the American regulator.
“We name the network and the token differently to show that this network is free from the story with the regulator. At the same time, TON has all the properties of the cryptocurrency with which payments are made,” said Dmitry Goroshevsky, CTO of TON Labs.
The developer’s message notes that due to legal difficulties that have arisen, Telegram will no longer take part in the development of TON, but the software created by the company can be used without any restrictions. The main task of the community at this stage of development is to quickly form a fully decentralized blockchain platform and attract the required number of independent validators to support the network.
