Hanging of 32-bit processors on Linux kernels of branches 5.15-5.17

Linux kernel versions 5.17 (March 21, 2022), 5.16.11 (February 23, 2022) and 5.15.35 (April 20, 2022) included a patch to fix the problem of entering s0ix sleep mode on AMD processors, leading to spontaneous freezes on 32- bit processors of x86 architecture. In particular, freezes have been observed on the Intel Pentium III, Intel Pentium M and VIA Eden (C7).

Initially, the problem appeared with the owner of a Thinkpad T40 laptop, who added a C3 mode exception for this platform, then an Intel developer discovered this problem on the Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook S6010 and fixed the error in the original patch.

The bug fix has so far only been adopted into the upcoming version 5.18-rc5 and has not been backported to other branches.
