Zend Framework comes under the wing of the Linux Foundation

Linux Foundation presented new project Sheets, within which the development of the framework will continue Zend Framework, which provides a collection of packages for developing web applications and services in PHP. The framework also provides development tools using the MVC (Model View Controller) paradigm, a layer for working with databases, a Lucene-based search engine, internationalization components (I18N) and an authentication API.

The project was transferred under the auspices of the Linux Foundation by Zend Technologies and Rogue Wave Software, which made the main contribution to its development. The Linux Foundation is seen as a neutral platform for further development of the Zend Framework, which will help attract new participants to the development. The name change was due to the desire to get rid of the connection to the commercial Zend brand in favor of positioning the framework as a project developed by the community.

The TSC (Technical Steering Committee), formed from members of the Zend Framework Community Review Team, will be responsible for technical solutions in the new project. Legal, organizational and financial issues will be considered by the Governing Board, which will include representatives of TSC and the companies participating in the project. Development will be carried out on GitHub. It is planned to complete all processes related to the transfer of the project to the Linux Foundation in the third or fourth quarter of this year.
