Ren Zhengfei: if Huawei abandons Android, Google will lose 700-800 million users

After the US government blacklisted Huawei, Google revoked the license allowing the Chinese company to use the Android mobile OS in its devices. Huawei probably does not expect the situation to improve in the near future, continuing active development of its own HongMeng OS operating system.

Ren Zhengfei: if Huawei abandons Android, Google will lose 700-800 million users

In a recent interview with CNBC, Huawei founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei said that if Huawei stops using Android in its devices, Google could lose 700-800 million users. He also noted that Huawei and Google will always be on the same line of interests. Mr. Zhengfei added that the Chinese company does not want to replace Android with something else, as this will lead to a significant slowdown in growth. However, if the end of Android is inevitable, Huawei will have its own operating system, which will allow the manufacturer to return to growth in the future.

The official presentation of Huawei's software platform may take place as early as this fall. According to some reports, it will be used in mid-range devices. It is worth noting that during testing of the HongMeng OS operating system, in which, in addition to Huawei, OPPO and VIVO participated, it was revealed that the software platform of Chinese developers is about 60% faster than Android. If Huawei replaces Android with its own OS in the future and convinces other Chinese manufacturers to do the same, it could become a serious threat to Google's monopoly in the smartphone market.
