OnePlus joins the Wireless Power Consortium

Network sources report that OnePlus has become a member of the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). This means that future OnePlus smartphones will receive support for wireless battery charging.

The WPC consortium, we recall, is promoting Qi wireless charging technology, which allows energy to be transferred using magnetic induction. The system works as follows. The charging station consists of an induction coil that creates an electromagnetic field when alternating current is applied. The receiving device contains a similar coil that captures the generated field and converts the resulting energy into direct current to charge the battery.

Participation in WPC means that OnePlus smartphones, like many other devices on the market, will gain Qi support. Apparently, a fast wireless charging system will be implemented.

Observers believe that Qi technology will be used in the OnePlus 8 family of smartphones, which are expected to be announced in the second quarter of this year. The named family will include the OnePlus 8 Lite, OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro models. They will receive a powerful MediaTek Dimensity 1000 or Snapdragon 865 processor. They are talking about the ability to work in fifth generation mobile networks (5G).
