There's no better time to learn than today. It's 2019, and the topic of DevOps is more relevant than ever. They say the days of system administrators are over, just as the era of mainframes has passed. But is that really true? As often happens in IT, the situation has changed. The DevOps methodology has emerged, but it cannot exist without a human […]
A tale of how a 'bad' wizard and a 'good' party almost drove the 'democratic' master to the edge. But the game still succeeded against all odds. At the beginning of this story, there wasn’t even a unicorn, and it wasn’t particularly anticipated. Instead, there was an invitation to participate in one of those role-playing games where our master wanted to try out a new […]
How I hate all of this. The work, the boss, programming, the development environment, tasks, the system they're recorded in, subordinates with their snot, goals, emails, the internet, social networks where everyone is astonishingly successful, the sham love for the company, slogans, meetings, corridors, toilets, faces, grimaces, dress code, planning. I hate everything that happens at work. I’m burned out. It's been a while. I hardly […]
A few words about the 'golden ratio' in the traditional sense. It is believed that if a segment is divided into parts such that the smaller part relates to the larger part as the larger part relates to the whole segment, this division gives a proportion of 1/1.618, which the ancient Greeks borrowed from even more ancient Egyptians, calling it the 'golden ratio'. Many architectural structures […]
The release of the distributed version control system Git 2.23.0 has been announced. Git is one of the most popular, reliable, and high-performance version control systems, providing flexible tools for nonlinear development based on branch and merge operations. To ensure the integrity of history and resistance to changes made retrospectively, implicit hashing of all previous history is used in each commit, and digital validation is possible […]

Today we will summarize our training and discuss what we will study in the remaining video lessons. Since we are using Cisco's educational materials, we will visit the company's website at www.cisco.com to see how much we have learned and how much remains to complete the course. Translator's note: Since the release of this video on November 28, 2015, the design of the Cisco website and content […]
The release of Apache HTTP Server 2.4.41 has been published (the release 2.4.40 was skipped), which introduces 23 changes and fixes 6 vulnerabilities: CVE-2019-10081 — an issue in mod_http2 that could lead to memory corruption when sending push requests at a very early stage. When using the 'H2PushResource' setting, it may be possible to overwrite memory in the request handling pool, but the problem is limited to a crash, as the data being written […]
One of the upcoming updates to the Chrome browser will completely drop support for the FTP protocol. This is stated in a special document from Google addressing this issue. However, the 'changes' will take effect only a year or even longer from now. Proper support for the FTP protocol in the Chrome browser has always been a sore point for developers at Google. One of the reasons for dropping FTP is cited as […]
Six-core Ryzen 5 processors gained wide recognition long before AMD transitioned to the Zen 2 microarchitecture. Both the first and second generations of six-core Ryzen 5 became a popular choice in their price segment due to AMD's strategy of offering customers more advanced multithreading than Intel processors can provide, at the same or even […]
TL;DR: A description of the client-server architecture of our internal network configuration management system, QControl. It is based on a two-tier transport protocol, working with gzip-packed messages without decompression between endpoints. Distributed routers and endpoints receive configuration updates, and the protocol allows the installation of localized intermediate relays. The system is built on the principle of differential backup (‘recent-stable’, explained below) and utilizes a query language […]
