A backup in such a repository is a named chain of interrelated components, for example, at […]

Alexander Larsson, a developer of Flatpak and an active participant in the GNOME project, has introduced a new project called Gthree, which provides a port of the 3D library three.js for GObject and GTK. Polaris has been introduced to keep Kubernetes clusters healthy

Note: The original text was written by Rob Scott — the lead SRE engineer at ReactiveOps, the company behind this announced project. We are very much aligned with the idea of centralized validation of what is being deployed in Kubernetes, which is why we are following such initiatives with interest. I'm pleased to introduce Polaris — an open-source project that helps maintain the 'health' of a Kubernetes cluster. We […]

Moto. Soaking AWS

If the application uses Amazon Web Services, the Python library moto is perfect for this. You can view the full resource coverage list here. On GitHub, there is a repo by Hugo Picado — moto-server. A ready-made image, just launch and use it. The only nuance is […]

By examining 76,000 vulnerabilities identified from 2009 to 2018, it was found that only 4,183 of them (5.5%) were used to conduct actual attacks. This figure is five times higher than previously published forecasts, in […]

The developers of the distributed database CockroachDB announced the transition of the project's source code to a combination of Business Source License (BSL) and Cockroach Community License (CCL), which is not open-source due to discrimination against certain categories of users. The BSL license was proposed three years ago by the co-founders of MySQL as an alternative to the Open Core model. The essence of BSL is that the code for extended functionality is initially […]

Memory on cylindrical magnetic domains. Part 1. Operating principle

Photo from the author's collection 1. Bubble memory, or memory on cylindrical magnetic domains, is non-volatile memory developed at Bell Labs in 1967 by Andrew Bobeck. Research has shown that small cylindrical magnetic domains form in single-crystal thin films of ferrites and garnets when a sufficiently strong magnetic field is applied perpendicular to the film surface. By changing the magnetic field, […]
