The release of Chrome OS 128, based on the Linux kernel, the upstart system manager, the ebuild/portage build tools, open components, and the Chrome 128 web browser, has been announced. The user environment of Chrome OS is limited to the web browser, and instead of standard applications, web applications are utilized. Nevertheless, Chrome OS includes a full multi-window interface, desktop, and taskbar. Output to the screen is provided […]
After nearly two years of development, the release of the Redox 0.9 operating system has been published, developed using the Rust programming language and the microkernel concept. The project’s developments are distributed under the MIT open-source license. Testing of Redox OS includes bootable live environments for real hardware and system images for virtual machines (512 MB and 1.5 GB), prepared for x86_64 and i686 architectures. A demonstration image […]
The release of the libmdbx library 0.13.1 (MDBX) has been published, featuring a high-performance, compact embedded key-value database. The libmdbx code is distributed under the Apache 2.0 license. It supports all current operating systems and architectures, including the Russian Elbrus 2000. A robust API for C++ is provided for libmdbx, along with enthusiast-supported bindings for Rust, Haskell, Python, NodeJS, Ruby, Go, Nim, […]
A set of patches has been published in the Linux kernel mailing list to implement the ability to build the Linux kernel for the ARM64 architecture in a macOS environment using the standard LLVM-based build tools. In addition to modifying the build scripts in the kernel and including additional header files in several source files, the installation of a package specific to the Linux environment in macOS is also required […]
Linux kernel developers have announced the submission of final changes required for building the kernel with the PREEMPT_RT option, which includes tools for real-time operation, to the linux-next branch that will be used for the 6.12 release. Once the changes are accepted into the main kernel branch, the PREEMPT_RT mode will be available for X86, ARM64, and RISC-V architectures. Later, support for other architectures will be added […]
Red Hat has announced the readiness of a new edition of the RHEL distribution — Red Hat Enterprise Linux AI (RHEL AI), specifically tailored for machine learning tasks and designed to simplify the creation of server solutions using large language models. This distribution includes a selection of tools and frameworks for machine learning, drivers for utilizing various hardware accelerators from AMD, Intel, and […]
The Nginx project has announced the transition from the Mercurial version control system to Git, the relocation of the official repository to GitHub, and the utilization of GitHub Issues and GitHub Discussions instead of the bug tracking system trac.nginx.org and discussions via mailing lists. This move to GitHub is expected to simplify interaction with the community and attract external developers to participate in the project. For […]
The release of the general-purpose programming language Rust 1.81, initially developed by Mozilla, is now being furthered under the auspices of the independent non-profit organization, Rust Foundation. The language focuses on safe memory usage and provides tools to achieve high task parallelism, all while avoiding the need for a garbage collector and runtime (runtime is limited to basic initialization and support for the standard library). […]
An experimental release of the open implementation of the Win32 API—Wine 9.17—has been published. Since the release of 9.16, 29 bug reports have been closed and 206 changes have been made. The most significant changes include: Support for scaling window surfaces on high-density pixel (High DPI) displays has been implemented. The built-in Vkd3d package with the Direct3D 12 implementation has been updated to version 1.13. The Wine Mono engine has […]
Security researchers from NinjaLab have developed a side-channel attack technique that allows for the cloning of ECDSA keys stored in cryptographic tokens such as YubiKey 5 and other devices using the Infineon cryptographic library. The attack has been codenamed EUCLEAK and, in addition to tokens with Infineon SLE78 chips, like YubiKey 5, it can also be applied to many other systems with microcontrollers […]
The creator of the unique distribution Adelie Linux, which uses the standard C library Musl, the OpenRC initialization system, and the APK package manager, announced the successful porting of the system manager systemd for use with the Musl library. Although the implementation is in its initial stages, it is already quite stable and demonstrates a threefold reduction in boot time compared to using OpenRC. Initially, systemd supports operation […]
The alpha version 0.70.0 of the open engine Medal of Honor - OpenMoHAA has been released. The project's goal is to create a cross-platform engine with open source code, fully compatible with the original Medal of Honor. The OpenMoHAA project is based on the source code of ioquake3, as the original Medal of Honor used the Id Tech 3 engine (that is, the engine from Quake 3) as its base. What […]
