It's amusing how the history of open models for converting text prompts into images, developed and trained by Stability AI, resembles a series of ups and downs like the successions of Microsoft OS releases. After the legendary success of XP, we saw the problematic Vista; then the fantastic 'Seven' — followed by the fruitless Windows 8. Stable Diffusion, though initially unremarkable, has gradually […]

American cloud-based software development tool provider GitLab, which counts Alphabet (the parent company of Google) among its investors, is exploring the possibility of a sale amid interest from potential buyers. This was reported by Reuters citing its own informed sources. The report states that GitLab, valued at around $8 billion, is working with investment bankers on the sales process. […]
The release of the nftables 1.1.0 packet filter has been published, unifying the filtering interfaces for IPv4, IPv6, ARP, and network bridges (aiming to replace iptables, ip6tables, arptables, and ebtables). The significant change in version number is not due to any radical changes, but rather a result of the continuous decimal numbering (the previous release was 1.0.9). At the same time, the release of the associated library libnftnl has been published […]
An international team of scientists led by British colleagues has broken their own record for data transmission speed over standard fiber optics. Previously achieving data transmission at a level of 302 Tbps, the new record has been set at 402 Tbps. An important aspect of this achievement was that ordinary off-the-shelf fiber was used in the experiment, which promises to raise speeds already […]

Google has announced the release of the source code for the Google Blocks project, which provides a virtual 3D environment for creating scenes, objects, and models for virtual and augmented reality systems. The program operates using virtual reality headsets, allowing for the creation of models directly within a virtual three-dimensional environment instead of traditional 3D element development processes using flat screens. The code is written in […]
