An experimental release of the open implementation of the Win32 API — Wine 9.8 has occurred. Since the release of 9.7, 22 bug reports have been closed and 209 changes have been made. The most significant updates include: The Wine Mono engine with the .NET platform implementation has been updated to version 9.1.0. Files generated using the Interface Definition Language (IDL) now utilize components that fully support execution.
A vulnerability (CVE-2024-32962) has been discovered in the xml-crypto JavaScript library, which is used as a dependency in 402 projects and downloaded from the NPM registry about a million times each week. The vulnerability has been assigned the maximum severity level (10 out of 10). The library provides functions for encrypting and verifying XML documents with digital signatures. This vulnerability allows an attacker to sign a fraudulent document that, by default configuration, will be accepted.
Oracle has released a corrective update for the VirtualBox virtualization system 7.0.18, which includes 3 fixes: A bug in the network components has been resolved, leading to a recommendation not to install VirtualBox version 7.0.16. The bug caused system crashes in the host environment when using virtual machines with bridge network settings or involving a network adapter working only on the host side.
CentOS users who have not yet transitioned to Rocky Linux can extend the lifetime of CentOS with additional support from CIQ Bridge. CIQ Bridge will extend the life for up to three years after EOL for organizations that need extra time to migrate to Rocky Linux, under an annual fixed-rate subscription. CIQ is a founding partner.
