After 14 months of development, the new stable branch of the Postfix mail server — 3.8.0 — has been released. At the same time, support for the Postfix 3.4 branch, released in early 2019, has been discontinued. Postfix is one of the rare projects that combine high security, reliability, and performance, which has been achieved through a thoughtful architecture and a strict coding policy. […]
A vulnerability (CVE-2023-1998) has been identified in the Linux kernel 6.2, which disables the protection against Spectre v2 attacks, allowing access to the memory of other processes running in different threads of SMT or Hyper-Threading, but on a single physical CPU core. The vulnerability, among other things, could be used to organize data leaks between virtual machines in cloud systems. The issue affects only […]

The Xenoeye Netflow collector is now available, which allows the collection of statistics on traffic flows from various network devices using Netflow v9 and IPFIX protocols, processing data, generating reports, and building graphs. Additionally, the collector can run custom scripts when thresholds are exceeded. The project core is written in C, and the code is distributed under the ISC license. Features of the collector include aggregated data based on necessary […]
Two vulnerabilities (CVE-2023-1281, CVE-2023-1829) have been discovered in the Linux kernel, allowing local users to elevate their privileges within the system. To exploit these vulnerabilities, the user needs the ability to create and modify traffic classifiers, which is available with CAP_NET_ADMIN rights that can be obtained by having the capability to create user namespaces. The issues appear starting from kernel 4.14 and have been fixed in the 6.2 branch […]
The release of the cryptographic library Botan 3.0.0 is available, used in the NeoPG project, a fork of GnuPG 2. The library provides a large collection of ready-made primitives utilized in the TLS protocol, X.509 certificates, AEAD ciphers, TPM modules, PKCS#11, password hashing, and post-quantum cryptography (hash-based signatures and key agreement based on McEliece). The library is written in C++ and is provided under the BSD license. […]
