Microsoft has blocked the account associated with VeraCrypt, a popular and long-standing encryption software, raising doubts about future updates for this software on Windows, said VeraCrypt developer Mounir Idrassi. He claims that he received no emails or prior warnings from Microsoft, and believes that the responses from the company’s support are generated by an AI.
The author of the VeraCrypt disk encryption system warned users about the blocking of his account by Microsoft, which is used to sign VeraCrypt builds for Windows with a digital signature. This has created a situation where it is impossible to release a new version of VeraCrypt for Windows. A security researcher has released the code for a zero-day exploit for Windows, dubbed BlueHammer. This radical step was taken due to a conflict with the Microsoft Security Response Center (MSRC) regarding the handling of the information he provided. The researcher, using the pseudonym Chaotic Eclipse, posted the exploit code on GitHub on April 3. He expressed frustration with MSRC's management's response to his submission.
