I decided to create my portfolio using Laravel 7. I wanted the homepage to serve as a landing page, with all the information on it changeable via the admin panel. That's not the main point. When it came time for deployment, I found a couple of good tutorials on how to do this on a full server with all its intricacies. I'm not very strong in deployment; I'm generally more of a front-end person than […]
Puppet is a configuration management system. It is used to bring hosts to the desired state and maintain that state. I have been working with Puppet for over five years. This text is essentially a translated and rearranged compilation of key points from the official documentation that will help newcomers quickly grasp the essentials of Puppet. Basic Information The Puppet operating model is client-server, although a serverless version with limited functionality is also supported. It uses […]
In the codebase used to produce the Mesa 20.2 release, the RADV Vulkan driver for AMD chips has switched to the default backend for shader compilation, "ACO", developed by Valve as an alternative to the LLVM shader compiler. This change will lead to improved game performance and reduced loading times. To revert to the old backend, the environment variable "RADV_DEBUG=llvm" is provided. […]

At Badoo, we constantly monitor emerging technologies and evaluate whether to incorporate them into our system. One such study we would like to share with the community is dedicated to Loki—a log aggregation system. Loki is a solution for storing and viewing logs, and this stack provides a flexible system for analyzing them and sending data to Prometheus. […]
According to a new leak, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra will feature a main camera with 50x zoom capability. This appears to be a step back from the 100x zoom boasted by the Galaxy S20 Ultra. However, sources report that this time the company has decided to focus on image quality and user experience rather than just numbers in the specifications. This news […]
Mozilla has reached an agreement with a third DNS provider for DNS over HTTPS (DoH) for Firefox. Alongside the previously offered DNS servers from CloudFlare ("https://1.1.1.1/dns-query") and NextDNS (https://dns.nextdns.io/id), Comcast's service (https://doh.xfinity.com/dns-query) will also be included in the settings. You can activate DoH and choose a provider in the network connection settings. Recall that experimental DNS over HTTPS checks were enabled in Firefox 77 […]

The proposal was submitted by Chris Murphy from the Fedora Workstation development team but has not yet been approved by the FESCo (Fedora Engineering Steering Committee), which is responsible for the technical aspects of Fedora's development. The motivation for using nano as the default instead of vi […]
Last night at the 'Perl and Raku Conference in the Cloud', Sawyer X announced the major version change of Perl from 5 to 7. Work is already underway, and the new version will be released within a year. Don't expect a lot of changes; briefly put, Perl 7 is still the same Perl 5.32 with modern default settings. You no longer have to […]
