The Xiaomi Mi Box S Android TV box was introduced back in the fourth quarter of 2018. The device received a refreshed design and a new remote, although the internal components remained the same as its predecessor. Now Xiaomi has updated the box, originally launched with Android 8.1 TV, to Android 9 Pie. The size of the update is just over 600 MB and includes […]
The developers of the Zimbra collaboration and email suite, positioned as an alternative to MS Exchange, have changed their open-source publication policy. Starting with the release of Zimbra 9, the project will no longer publish binary builds of the Zimbra Open Source Edition and will limit itself to the release of the commercial version, Zimbra Network Edition. Moreover, the developers do not plan to release the source code of Zimbra 9 for the community […]
For Fedora 33, a change is planned that will transition the distribution to using systemd-resolved by default for DNS query resolution. Glibc will be switched to nss-resolve from the systemd project instead of the built-in NSS module nss-dns. Systemd-resolved performs functions such as maintaining settings in the resolv.conf file based on DHCP and static DNS configuration data for network interfaces, supports DNSSEC, and LLMNR (Link […]
Changes have been accepted into the codebase of 'ZFS on Linux', developed under the auspices of the OpenZFS project as a reference implementation of ZFS, adding support for the FreeBSD operating system. The code added to 'ZFS on Linux' has been tested in FreeBSD versions 11 and 12. Thus, FreeBSD developers no longer need to maintain their own synchronized branch of 'ZFS on Linux', and the development of all related components [...]
For obvious reasons, this year's traditional Red Hat Summit will take place online. Therefore, there is no need to buy plane tickets to San Francisco this time. To participate in the conference, you only need some time, a relatively stable internet connection, and knowledge of the English language. The event program includes both traditional presentations and demonstrations, as well as interactive sessions and project booths, [...]
Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) are used on websites and in applications mainly to speed up the loading of static elements. This is achieved by caching files on CDN servers located in different geographical regions. When a user requests data via a CDN, they receive it from the nearest server. The principle of operation and functionality are roughly the same across all content delivery networks. Upon receiving a request to load [...]
Back in 2004, the head of our technical department was fortunate enough to be invited to the launch of the first Wi-Fi network in Russia. It was launched at Nizhny Novgorod University by Cisco and Intel, where in 2000 Intel had opened a research and development center with a workforce of over a thousand engineers and even (which is unusual) purchased [...]
Evaluate the links in the middle part of the scheme. We'll return to them below. At some point, you may encounter the fact that large, complex L2-based networks are irreparably flawed. First and foremost, this involves problems related to the processing of BUM traffic and the operation of the STP protocol. Secondly, there is a generally outdated architecture. This leads to unpleasant issues in the form of [...]

Intel's management often likes to repeat that with the transition to 7-nanometer technology, they will return to the familiar cadence of process changes — once every two or two and a half years. The first 7-nanometer product is set to launch at the end of 2021, but by 2022 the company will be ready to offer a full range of 7-nanometer products. These statements were made at one of the events in […]
The main branch of nginx 1.17.10 has been released, continuing the development of new features (the parallel stable branch 1.16 will only receive changes related to fixing serious bugs and vulnerabilities). The new version implements a new directive 'auth_delay', allowing an added delay for unauthorized requests with a 401 response code to reduce the intensity of password guessing attacks and protect against attacks manipulating […]
