The OpenWifi project develops an open Wi-Fi chip based on FPGA and SDR.

At the recent FOSDEM 2020 conference, the OpenWifi project was introduced, which develops the first open implementation of the complete 802.11a/g/n Wi-Fi stack, where the signal shape and modulation are defined programmatically (SDR, Software Defined Radio). OpenWifi allows for the creation of a fully controllable implementation of all components of a wireless device, including low-level layers typically implemented in standard wireless adapters at the level of chips that are not auditable.
