Google has released the Chrome 80 web browser. A stable version of the open-source Chromium project, which underpins Chrome, is also available. The Chrome browser is distinguished by the use of Google logos, a notification system in case of crashes, the ability to load Flash modules on demand, modules for playing protected video content (DRM), an automatic update installation system, and the transfer of RLZ parameters during searches. The next release, Chrome 81 […]
Google has released the final version of Chrome 80, which includes a number of new features. This build has introduced a tab grouping function, allowing users to collect tabs with a common name and color into groups. By default, it is enabled for some users, while others can activate it via the option chrome://flags/#tab-groups. Another new feature is a stricter cookie policy if […]
Wireguard is a simple and secure VPN protocol, primarily developed by Jason A. Donenfeld. For a long time, the kernel module implementing this protocol was not accepted into the main branch of the Linux kernel because it used its own implementation of cryptographic primitives (Zinc) instead of the standard crypto API. Recently, this obstacle has been overcome, thanks in part to updates accepted into the crypto API. […]
The background, so to speak: Fujitsu rx300 s6 server, RAID6 made of 6 1TB disks, running XenServer 6.2, hosting several servers, including Ubuntu with multiple shares, 3.5 million files, 1.5TB of data, all gradually growing and bloating. The task: to set up data backup from the file server, partly on a daily basis, partly weekly. We have a Windows machine for backup with RAID5 […]

You don’t have to be a chip developer to program for FPGA, just as you don’t need to be a C++ programmer to write Java code. However, in both cases, it might be beneficial. The goal of commercializing both technologies, Java and FPGA, is to refute the last statement. The good news for FPGA is that with the right levels of abstraction and a set of […]

In this report, Alexey Lesovsky will discuss the key aspects of PostgreSQL statistics, what they mean, and why they should be included in monitoring; which graphs should be part of monitoring, how to add them, and how to interpret them. This report will be valuable for database administrators, system […]
Every few years, the software development industry experiences a paradigm shift. One such phenomenon is the increasing interest in the microservices concept. Although microservices are not a new technology, their popularity has soared recently. Large monolithic services are now being replaced by independent, autonomous microservices. A microservice can be seen as an application that […]
At the recent FOSDEM 2020 conference, the OpenWifi project was introduced, which develops the first open implementation of the complete 802.11a/g/n Wi-Fi stack, where the signal shape and modulation are defined programmatically (SDR, Software Defined Radio). OpenWifi allows for the creation of a fully controllable implementation of all components of a wireless device, including low-level layers typically implemented in standard wireless adapters at the level of chips that are not auditable.
The upcoming Windows 10 20H1 build will bring many new features. Not long ago, it was announced that the Paint and WordPad applications would be classified as optional but still available. Now, sources indicate that a similar fate awaits the basic text editor Notepad. All three applications, which have long been essential for operating systems, may soon become non-mandatory.
Three years after its announcement at CES 2017 and two years of beta testing on PCs, NVIDIA's GeForce Now cloud gaming service has made its debut. The GeForce Now offering appears significantly more attractive compared to what Google's Stadia streaming game service has to offer its users, at least on paper. Interaction with GeForce Now is expected to provide a different experience.
There is periodically a task to search for related data by a set of keys until we accumulate the required total number of records. The most 'realistic' example is to display the 20 oldest tasks listed for employees (for instance, within a single department). This topic is often required for various management dashboards with brief overviews of work areas. In this article, we will discuss the implementation in PostgreSQL […]
