Hello, Habr! After reading the publication 'uTorrent on guard of online viewing', I was surprised that a way to enable sequential downloading of files without additional software like BEncode Editor has not yet been published, and can be done quickly — literally in two clicks. So: Enable sequential loading of file parts and sequential downloading of files from the torrent list. 1. Download […]
A portable release of version 6.6 of the window manager cwm, developed as part of the OpenBSD project, has been released. This window manager is based on the code from evilwm but utilizes modern interfaces of the X11 protocol and, traditionally for OpenBSD, is developed with a strong focus on security. In this portable release, in addition to OpenBSD, support is provided for FreeBSD, NetBSD, macOS (versions 10.9 and above), as well as OS […]
Arch Linux developers announced the transition of the package packaging scheme from the xz algorithm (.pkg.tar.xz) to zstd (.pkg.tar.zst). The repackaging of the packages into the zstd format resulted in a total package size increase of 0.8%, but improved unpacking speed by 1300%. As a result, the switch to zstd will lead to a significant increase in package installation speed. Currently, the repository uses the algorithm […]
To date, there are ready-made (proprietary) solutions for monitoring IP(TS) streams, such as VB and iQ, which have a rich set of features and are usually available from large operators dealing with TV services. This article describes a solution based on the open source project TSDuck, intended for minimal monitoring of IP(TS) streams via the CC (continuity counter) and bitrate. Possible […]
TL;DR Absolute Computrace is a technology that allows locking a machine (and not only) even if the operating system is reinstalled or the hard drive is replaced, for $15 a year. I bought a laptop on eBay that was locked with this. This article details my experience battling it and attempting to do the same based on […]
Main prerequisites: There is an old, unused Raspberry Pi first-generation board; The board is lying on a shelf as dead weight and is not used — the "Brick" board; What I would like to achieve: At a certain point in time (for example, depending on my mood), the board stops being a "Brick," and a magic memory card is inserted; An Ethernet cable and a plug from a regular home speaker are connected to the board […]
It is known that a CTO's competency is only tested during the second time they perform this role. Because it is one thing to work for several years in a company, to evolve with it, and, being in the same cultural context, gradually gain more responsibility. And it is quite another to come directly into the position of technical director in a company burdened with legacy and a host of problems neatly […]
Hello! My first series of articles will focus on exploring methods of compressing and storing images/sound, such as JPEG (images) and WAVE (sound), including examples of programs using these formats (.jpg, .wav) in practice. In this part, we will specifically discuss WAVE. The history of WAVE (Waveform Audio File Format) is a container file format for storing audio recordings […]
The article consists of two parts: A brief overview of some architectures of networks for object detection in images and image segmentation with the most understandable resources linked for my reference. I tried to choose video explanations, preferably in Russian. The second part attempts to understand the direction of development of neural network architectures. And technologies based on them. Figure 1 – Understanding […]
The release version of Microsoft Edge based on the Chromium engine will be available on January 15. It will be accessible through the Update Center and will replace the classic browser. Technically, it will be similar to Google Chrome and other 'Chrome-based' browsers. All of this is expected to allow the company to significantly expand its market share for this solution. Given that the new Microsoft Edge […]
Hello again! I found this article written back in May 2019. This is a continuation of a series of articles about WAVE and JPEG. Here is the first one. This publication will include information about the image encoding algorithm and the format itself. A pinch of history, a tablespoon of Wikipedia: JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) is one of the popular […]
In this article, I will set up a development environment for the game "Bylyny" and break the game down into parts suitable for use in OpenFaaS. I will perform all operations on Linux, and I will deploy Kubernetes in minikube using VirtualBox. My workstation has 2 CPU cores and 12GB of RAM; I will use […] as the system disk.
