Serverless computing is one of the most notable trends in cloud computing. The main principle is that infrastructure is the responsibility of the service provider, not DevOps. Resource scaling automatically adjusts to load and has a high speed of variability. Another common feature is the trend towards minimizing and focusing code, which is why serverless computing is sometimes referred to as 'function as a service' […]

We laid out AI technologies from 2019 and unabashedly compared them with the forecast from 2017. First, what is the Gartner Hype Cycle? It is a sort of technology maturity cycle, specifically the transition from the hype phase to its productive use. Here comes a chart with a translation for clarity. Below are the explanations. Streaming provider Deezer has opened the source code of the experimental project Spleeter, developing a machine learning system for separating sound sources from complex audio compositions. The program allows you to remove vocals from a composition, leaving only the musical accompaniment, manipulate the sound of individual instruments, or discard the music and keep the voice for overlaying on another audio track, creating mixes, karaoke, or transcription. The code […]
Arch Linux developers reported changes in the organization of package installation with the Linux kernel. All official kernel packages (linux, linux-lts, linux-zen, and linux-hardened) will no longer actually install the kernel image in the /boot directory. Installation and removal of kernel images will be done by the mkinitcpio script (hooks for handling kernel installation operations have only been added to mkinitcpio for now, but in […]

On January 14, the first day of the Old New Year 2017, an article titled 'Persona. Commander Norton' was published. 1987 was a significant year for me. After reading it, which caused a lot of emotions, I recalled 1987, a pivotal year in my life. It was the year when I transitioned from a junior researcher to the head of one of the leading departments at the Research Institute, which had […]
SAIPR — the genetic code of a part of it" L.I. Volkov, head of the 4th Central Research Institute of the Ministry of Defense. The title of the article combines the titles of two publications that appeared back in 1994 in the newspapers 'Moscow Warrior' and 'Red Star'. The basis of the publications was an interview conducted by military correspondent Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Bezhko. And here these two publications caught my eye: The second publication has even […]

We propose to dive back down to a low level and talk about the security of x86-compatible computer platform firmware. This time, the main ingredient of the research is Intel Boot Guard (not to be confused with Intel BIOS Guard!) – a hardware-supported technology for trusted BIOS booting that the computer system vendor can permanently enable or disable during production. Well, the recipe for the study is familiar to us: […]
