Google is advancing the Soong build system, which aims to replace the old Android platform build scripts based on the make utility. Soong proposes the use of simple declarative descriptions of module build rules specified in files with the '.bp' (blueprints) extension. The file format is similar to JSON and closely mirrors the syntax and semantics of Bazel build files. The code is written in Go […]

Quora: What can be considered the most amazing thing that computers have made possible? Alan Kay: I am still trying to learn to think better. I believe the answer will be very similar to the response to the question 'what is the most surprising thing that writing (and then the printing press) made possible.' A year ago, I was learning C, mastering GTK, and during that process, I wrote a wrapper for Wine to simplify many tedious setup tasks. Now, I don't have the time or energy to finish the project, but it included a convenient feature for adapting the Wine theme to the current GTK3 theme, which I extracted into a separate console utility. I know there's a 'mimicry' feature in Wine-staging for the GTK theme, […]
The Linux kernel has one weak spot: poor testing. One of the main signs that changes are on the way is that KernelCI, the automated Linux kernel testing environment, is becoming part of the Linux Foundation project. At a recent Linux Kernel Plumbers meeting in Lisbon, Portugal, one of the hottest topics was how to improve and automate Linux kernel testing. […]
One of the main challenges in the development and subsequent operation of microservices is the thoughtful and careful configuration of their instances. In my opinion, the new framework microconfig.io can help with this. It elegantly addresses some of the routine application configuration tasks. If you have many microservices, each with its configuration file(s), there is a high probability […]
So, your team has completed the alpha version of your blockchain, and it’s time to launch the testnet, and then the mainnet. You have a real blockchain with independent participants, a solid economic model, security, you've designed governance, and now it's time to put it all to the test. In an ideal crypto-anarchist world, you deploy the genesis block, the final node code, and the validators themselves […]

However, Raspberry Pi is not just a valuable piece of hardware; it’s also a capable fanless computer running Linux. Today, we will explore useful features of the Raspberry Pi that require no coding at all. For those interested, details […]
