Second beta release of FreeBSD 12.1

The second beta release of FreeBSD 12.1 has been published. FreeBSD 12.1-BETA2 is available for amd64, i386, powerpc, powerpc64, powerpcspe, sparc64, and armv6, armv7, and aarch64 architectures. Additionally, images have been prepared for virtualization systems (QCOW2, VHD, VMDK, raw) and Amazon EC2 cloud environments. The release of FreeBSD 12.1 is scheduled for November 4. An overview of the new features can be found in the announcement of the first beta release.

Release of the DNS server KnotDNS 2.8.4

On September 24, 2019, an entry about the release of the KnotDNS 2.8.4 DNS server appeared on the developer's website. The project developer is the Czech domain name registrar CZ.NIC. KnotDNS is a high-performance DNS server that supports all DNS features. It is written in C and distributed under the GPLv3 license. For high performance in handling requests, a multithreaded and mostly non-blocking implementation is used, which scales well.

The final version of the cryproarmpkcs utility has been released. A significant difference from previous versions is the addition of features related to the creation of self-signed certificates. Certificates can be created either with the generation of a key pair or based on previously created certificate requests (PKCS#10). The created certificate, along with the created key pair, is placed in a secure PKCS#12 container. The PKCS#12 container can be used when working with openssl.

Release of the RPM package manager 4.15

After nearly two years of development, the release of the RPM package manager 4.15.0 has taken place. The RPM4 project is developed by Red Hat and is used in distributions such as RHEL (including derivative projects CentOS, Scientific Linux, AsiaLinux, Red Flag Linux, Oracle Linux), Fedora, SUSE, openSUSE, ALT Linux, OpenMandriva, Mageia, PCLinuxOS, Tizen, and many others. Previously, the RPM5 project was developed by an independent team of developers.
