First alpha release of Protox, a Tox decentralized messaging client for mobile platforms.

First alpha release of Protox, a Tox decentralized messaging client for mobile platforms.

Protox β€” mobile application for messaging between users without the participation of a server based on the protocol Tox (toktok-toxcore). At the moment, only Android OC is supported, however, since the program is written on the cross-platform Qt framework using QML, it is possible to port it to other platforms in the future. The program is an alternative to Tox for clients Antox, Trifa, Tok - almost all of which have been abandoned.

In alpha version NOT the following protocol features are implemented:

  • Sending files and avatars. The highest priority task in the next versions.
  • Support for conferences (groups).
  • Video and voice communication.

Known issues in the alpha version:

  • The message input field when using line breaks does not have a scrollbar and has an infinite height. So far, this problem has not been resolved.
  • Incomplete support for message formatting. In fact, there is no formatting standard in the Tox protocol, however, similar to the qTox desktop client, formatting is supported: links, bold text, underlining, strikethrough, quotes.

In order for the application not to disconnect from the network, it is necessary to remove the restriction of application activity in the settings of OC Android.
