Cooling Manufacturers Expect '5G' Smartphone Revenue to Grow

It looks like hope for smartphones with long battery life is fading again. Neither new technical processes, nor SoC optimization, nor an increase in battery capacity, nor many other "chips" can bring the appearance of mobile devices closer, which, with intensive use during the day, would not have to be charged every night. What's more, cooling manufacturers expect the next generation of 5G-enabled smartphones to be hot enough to see a direct benefit.

Thus, according to the Taiwanese Internet resource DigiTimes, one of the largest manufacturers of cooling systems, Asia Vital Components (AVC), expects an increase in demand for its solutions when the supply of 5G smartphones begins to gain momentum. For a long time, AVC has been a manufacturer of cooling systems for PCs and laptops. Now she plans to shift the focus of development and production to cooling systems for smartphones and tablets. The company is also going to change the structure of production costs, allocating more funds to increase process automation.

In 2018, AVC reported revenue of NT$29,07 billion (approximately $941,1 million). This is 7,2% more than in 2017. Hope for hot smartphones allows the company to predict that revenue will continue to grow. In AVC's revenue mix, cooling solutions account for 58% of revenue. The contract assembly business gives another 20%. Hull production adds another 16%. The remaining 6% are chamber modules and bearings (hinges).

Interestingly, AVC is named as the supplier of bearings (or swivel mechanisms) for Huawei's foldable smartphones. This year, AVC does not expect to make significant money in this direction, but does not rule it out in the future.
